I purchased this after our zillioneth Mr Coffee machine died. We're purchasing a travel trailer and I thought we could use this on the TT and not use power like a machine would. We tried it at home first since the Mr Coffee machine died. It's now become our only coffee maker. It's a little laborious but the taste is worth it and there isn't anything mechanical to break, more or less. We purchased extra glass knobs in the event we do something dumb like drop the knob on the floor, which we did, but it somehow didn't break.For nine cups we use nine tablespoons of coffee (we use a regular coffee filter and just poke a hole in the middle) and it takes 10 minutes to heat the water to boiling and then we turn down heat a little and allow it to percolate for 8 minutes. We set timers so we can walk away and return when necessary. It makes super hot coffee and the bitterness I find in the regular coffee maker is gone. And the 9 cups really only ends up making the 6 cups we used to make in the Mr. Coffee machine. We use Trader Joe's French Roast coffee beans, grind it to about the same consistency as we did for the coffee maker which is not quite fine like espresso but not a coarse grind either. My partner who drinks more than one cup puts the hot coffee in a travel mug to keep it hot and then pours more into his ceramic mug when he wants more.I was debating purchasing an electric percolator bc the taste is so good but it'll probably break so we'll just keep using this. Sometimes low technology is best.
